WORKSHOPS

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8th

20:30 – 21:30 Candlelight Relaxation Practices
Take the time before bed to settle the mind and relax the body. We will do a gentle mix of meditation, breathing and restorative yoga.

THURSDAY, MAY 9th

8:00 – 10:00 Ashtanga Yoga Deconstructed
In this class we will slow down the practice to feel the poses themselves as well as the ‘poses between the poses’. It can happen that the focus is so intent on moving and flowing that we seem to be ‘in a hurry’ to get to the end of our practice. We find it incredibly informative to slow it down, to be mindful of each and every movement as a special project that then allows us on other days to move more freely with a base of stability and safety. The practice will be based on the primary series standing positions, some of the sitting positions and the finishing sequence.

15:00 – 17:00 Foundations for a Mindful Healing Ashtanga Practice
This class will explore the building blocks of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It’ll be a great class for experienced and newcomers alike! We’ll explain the foundational elements of Bandha, Breath, Drishti and Vinyasa and how these contribute to making Ashtanga yoga a mindful healing practice. Practically, we’ll do projects to experience the bandhas and explore the breath. Additionally, how these contribute to finding vinyasa and stability in a variety of standing yoga poses.

20:00 – 21:00 Candlelight Relaxation Practices
Take the time before bed to settle the mind and relax the body. We will do a gentle mix of meditation, breathing and restorative yoga.

FRIDAY, MAY 10th

8:00 – 10:00 Ashtanga Yoga Moving Towards Flow OR Mysore for Experienced Practitioners
We will start moving more fluidly in the primary series now that we have worked on decomposing many poses and refining the subtleties. Can we manage to maintain the alignment and the mental equanimity with a little quicker pace? We’ll also focus on the transitions between sitting poses by slowing that part of the practice a little.

15:00 – 17:00 Back Bending for All Backs!
A healthy spine is one that is mobile and stable. In our daily life, we don’t have many opportunities to bend the back backwards so in this workshop we will focus on doing this. Back bending stimulates the nervous system – both the subtle nerves (nadis) and the central nervous system – bringing us positive energy when done with mindfulness and humility. It also strengths the whole line of back muscles and lengthens the whole line of front muscles, giving us room to breathe fully and deeply while strengthening and stabilizing. These poses help us feel happy and free.

20:00 – 21:00 Candlelight Relaxation Practices
Take the time before bed to settle the mind and relax the body. We will do a gentle mix of meditation, breathing and restorative yoga.

SATURDAY, MAY 11th

8:00 – 10:00 Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga OR Introduction to Mysore
Traditionally the Ashtanga Vinyasa system of yoga is taught individually within a group. Meaning that each student works on the section of the practice that the teacher has advised them to; while the teacher observes the room of practitioners and gives advice and hands on adjustments as needed. The benefits and beauty of this way of practicing is that the yoga student moves at the rhythm of their own breath and within their own capacities but still under the watchful eye and guidance of an experienced teacher.
In this workshop, those who have memorized the portion of the traditional sequence they are working on will practice alongside a group of students new to this way of practicing. Those new will be grouped together and introduced to learning how to memorize a portion of the series.

15:00 – 17:00 Safe Inversions – Going Upside Down
Going upside down! How to get the endless benefits of improved circulation, calming to the mind, heart, lung and thyroid health and much more while maintaining healthy vertebrae. In this workshop we’ll explore the different variations to access inversions in the most appropriate ways for our body.

20:00 – 21:00 Candlelight Relaxation Practices
Take the time before bed to settle the mind and relax the body. We will do a gentle mix of meditation, breathing and restorative yoga.

SUNDAY, MAY 12th

8:00 – 9:15 Mini-Mysore Practice
Heading back home we want to move our bodies to feel great while traveling. One of the many practical reasons to practice yoga!
