Black Lotus Yoga with Ty Landrum

Black Lotus Yoga
with Ty Landrum

October 9 – 11, 2026

For those who practice Ashtanga Yoga, you will find Black Lotus to be an enriching alternative. Black Lotus Yoga is the latest blossom of the modern vinyasa tradition. It arose unexpectedly, on a sudden wave of breath, to give yoga new life. Though rooted in old principles, Black Lotus Yoga is made for modern times. It works with the natural movements of the breath, and never against them, to open the heart and invite the creative sap to flow. This is not about hard discipline, or forcing the body into a mold, but about making space within the body for the spirit to rise, and spread its lotus petals upward toward the light. With six brilliant sequences, arranged in progressive order of difficulty, Black Lotus Yoga provides enough structure to explore for a lifetime.

Program

This workshop is an introduction to the Black Lotus Yoga system.  We learn how the system works, how to use it, how to improvise with it, and how to advance through the sequences as your practice evolves. Our mornings begin with a guided Black Lotus practice . Then we shift into workshop mode, where we explore the patterns of breath and movement that bring the postures alive. Our focus will be on internal alignment, or the balance of pranic forces that leads to the quickening of uddana, the ascending current that rises from earth to sky.  We work with these energetic patterns in a direct and immediate way to bring new depth and vibrance to our practice.  Through these explorations, we learn how to engage meaningfully with bandha and mudra, and we renew our understanding of what somatic yoga is all about.

FRIDAY, OCT. 9th
18:30 – 20:00
Talk-The Rise of Black Lotus: Spiritual Ideals for Troubled Times
How can yoga practice help us reclaim our spiritual power? How can it help us reconnect to our truths? This talk aims to clarify. Together we explore the meaning of yoga, not as it was, but as it must now be, to answer our urgent spiritual needs.

SATURDAY, OCT 10th
8:00 – 10:00
First Series Guided Black Lotus Practice
Ty will guide us through his inspiring fluid first series.

10:00 – 12:00  The Five Pranas Lecture
In this session, we learn about the five pranas, and how to work with them as we breathe.  Working with the five pranas brings depth and potency to our yoga. It quickens the movement of the vital force through the body, and supports the process of deep emotional release.

13:30-15:30 Spinal Undulation & 15:30 – 16:00 Pranayama
The natural interplay of prana and apana assumes a wavelike movement, and one that reaches from the pelvis to the crown of the head.  And when we attend to that movement, the spine begins to undulate rather naturally.  In this session, we explore that movement, and we learn how to integrate it into our vinyasa.

SATURDAY, OCT 10th
8:00 – 10:00
Second Series Guided Black Lotus Practice
Ty will guide us through his inspiring fluid second series.

10:00 – 12:00  Lifting Support
In this session, we learn an essential skill – lifting support upward through the body, in one long movement that reaches from earth to sky. This movement is essential for balance and stability, both in transitional movements and postural forms. It is also the movement on which the bandhas depend.  We explore this movement closely, and we learn how to apply it to standing postures, forward folds and twists. Then we look closely at how the bandhas amplify this movement.

13:30-15:30 Backbending & 15:30 – 16:00 Pranayama
Backbends can be exhilarating, uplifting and easeful at the same time.  But they require cultivation and the development of sound technique. In this session, we learn how to access more length and suppleness in the spine, and how to support our backbends with the pelvis, lower belly and diaphragm.
