Ashtanga Deconstructed
Conscious Ashtanga Yoga & Anatomy Weekend
with Linda Munro
November 22, 23 & 24, 2024
at Agora Lisboa, Lisbon
Open to all levels except complete beginners.
Program
FRIDAY, NOV. 22nd
19:00 – 21:00 Ashtanga Deconstructed 1
In this special class Linda will deconstruct a portion of primary series layer by layer to reveal the subtleties of the yoga positions. As we get in tune to the subtleness of the ashtanga practice we are able to go deeper. Deeper into the positions but also deeper into listening; listening to the muscles, fascia, inner vibration, breath, the unconscious thoughts and emotions. Our mind becomes still and concentrated, our breath becomes smooth and profound, our body becomes strong and free from tension and our spirt becomes light. The practice becomes a place to heal on several levels!
SATURDAY, NOV. 23rd
9:00 – 12:00 Ashtanga Deconstructed 2 + Anatomy of the Lower Back & Sacroiliac Joints
This is a traditional Mysore-style asana practice. Practitioners will be supported but self-directed. To participate harmoniously, you must have an asana sequence that you can practice on your own, without external direction. Ashtanga Vinyasa will be the predominating style, but other intelligent, breath-based vinyasa krama sequences are welcome.
13:30 – 16:30 Anatomy of the Lower Back & Sacroiliac Joints + Putting it into Practice!
Right after lunch we will look at more of the anatomy for 1 – 1.5 hours and then we will do partner work and exploration to learn how to apply the alignment in the ashtanga practice to safeguard this area of the body. It can be interesting to those who have experienced discomfort in the lower back and buttocks area, as well as those who want to develop the wisdom to avoid future suffering (as Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras suggests 🙂 )
SUNDAY, NOV. 24th
9:00 – 12:00 Ashtanga Intermediate Series Deconstructed + Anatomy of the Shoulders & Neck
In this class, Linda will talk through the standing sequence at a steady pace and then go directly to the intermediate series. A portion of the series will be deconstructed and explored with the use of props in order to make the practice accessible to all those who have been practicing Ashtanga Primary Series. After 2 hours of asana practice, the last hour will be dedicated to the anatomy of the Shoulders & Neck.
