Come and Experience the Juicy, Sweet Mellows of the NEXT LEVEL of Ashtanga Yoga!
The Next Level Training has been created by David as an extension of the 40 Hour Primary Series Course that he offers to act as an even deeper immersion into the realms of teaching and practice of Ashtanga Yoga.
It is an amazing opportunity! The classes are full of deep information and knowledge as well as plenty of insights and fun! It is truly an incredibly rich experience filled with a vibration of positive energy!
In order to attend the students must provide proof of their attendance in David’s 40 Hour Primary Series Teacher Training OR the 200-hour Teacher Training at Ashtanga Yoga Paris. Otherwise, they must submit their practice and training experience for consideration as well as have an existing practice of Ashtanga Second Series at least up through Pincha Mayurasana.

– Traditional Sanskrit Counting for the Full Primary Series
– Adjustments and Teaching Techniques for Second Series
– Pranayama and Bandhas Study: This will consist of a daily practice of the first levels of traditional Ashtanga pranayama methods as taught by Pattabhi Jois as well as learning methods of safely and effectively teaching students about these ethereal realms of the practice
– Philosophy of Patanjali: Research and Discussion of Pantanjali’s Eight Limbs and other Philosophical aspects of Ashtanga Yoga will be an integral part of the training with students presenting their understandings for the group.
– Daily Practice will consist of either Mysore-Style or Traditional Sanskrit Led Classes supervised by David
– Community Outreach is an optional segment of the course. This will depend upon the hosts and availability of regional organizations with which we may coordinate a program to spread the prana gained from practice and move it out into the world and local community. Details will be announced closer to the event.
Due to the deeper level of study and immersion there is a higher expectation for the participants level of experience. Below find some of the prerequisites:
Participants for the Next Level training should have already completed David’s 40 Hour First Series Training Course. If however they have not completed his 40 Hour Course yet have attended Ashtanga Training Courses with other teachers they may submit a practice and training history and their application will be considered.
It is imperative that the participants should have a consistent practice of Ashtanga Yoga in order to attend. The prerequisites are more stringent for this level of training. They should already be familiar with second series and be practicing AT LEAST up to Pincha Mayurasana. Since a good amount of this course is designed to learn the teaching techniques and adjustments for Second Series it is important to have practiced up to that point as a minimum. The practice of the asanas does not have to be “perfect” yet they must have been practicing second series consistently prior to the training.

Interview with David Swenson, from his last visit
ABOUT DAVID: David Swenson’s introduction to Ashtanga came in 1973 when he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, California. In 1975 David and Nancy brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time and Swenson was fortunate enough to be there. Swenson made his first trip to Mysore in 1977. He is one of a very small number of people worldwide that have learned the entire Ashtanga system including all asana sequences and pranayama as it was originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois.
David is recognized today as on of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. He has traveled to over 50 countries in his 40 years of sharing his knowledge of the system.
